Dr. Malik Altaf Hussain

Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Malik Altaf Hussain is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Knee Regulatory Research Center at West Virginia University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University, where his work focused on health, institutions, and development in colonial India. Before joining the Knee Center in Fall 2025, he was a Public Choice Fellow at the Center for the Study of Public Choice at George Mason University.

His research explores how political and cultural structures shaped vaccination campaigns and mortality patterns under British rule, and how these legacies continue to influence contemporary outcomes. Dr. Hussain has published work in Constitutional Political EconomyStructural Change and Economic Dynamics, Small Business Economics, and other journals. He was awarded the Emergent Ventures Fellowship in 2024. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, running, and the outdoors.
